DESCRIPTION:June 6th-7th (5th 12 to 6pm\, 6th 8am to 2 pm) \n\n\n\nSpecific Purpose: How to safely and effectively treat severe\, acute and chronic\, complicated pain and injury; how to differentiate between nerve-origin pain and musculoskeletal-origin pain\, as well as identify multiple origins. Students will demonstrate the ability to distinguish between an intellectually thoughtful\, therapeutically effective touch — and simply a relaxing touch that will not have the desired healing effect on a pain patient and may irritate the patient further. 5. Students will demonstrate the ability to manually disrupt the pain path through the nerves\, and manually activate the correct nerve flow. 6. Students will show an understanding of recognizing visually proper joint alignment. 7. Students will demonstrate correct myofascial touch and movement through a muscle. 8. Starting with the brain and spinal cord\, therapists will use positional release and soft tissue balancing protocols to address OA & C1-C2 fixations\, cervical kyphosis (also known as “military neck”)\, spinal stenosis patterns\, stuck facet joints\, and treat sprains and strains throughout the body. Nerve tests include: the Spurling Test: spinal nerve compression; Eden’s Test: costo-clavicular syndrome; Adson’s Test: scalene and first rib involvement; Wright Abduction Test: pectoralis minor involvement; Tests to identify Cubital Tunnel and Guyon’s Canal (ulnar tunnel) conditions; Pronator Teres Test: median nerve entrapment; and Tests for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  Complicated shoulder capsular adhesions will also be addressed. For the Lower Body\, The Supine to sit test will evaluate for functional versus anatomical leg length discrepancies. Pelvic stabilization will be used to address sacral torsion patterns\, iliosacral upslips\, joint capsular patterns\, femoral nerve compression\, and normal muscle firing patterns. Therapists will level the sacral base and release the Sacrotuberous ligament for sciatic nerve pain. The Straight Leg Test will identify L5/ SI bulges or herniated discs. The Slump Test will identify hamstring strains that scar down the Sciatic Nerve. Tibial Torsions and Fixated Fibular Head Conditions will be corrected by releasing the biceps femoris muscle to address the Tibial and Fibular Nerve Entrapments. Manual therapists will also evaluate and release the Tarasal Tunnel and Morton’s Neuroma. Participants will explore major anatomical structures\, including muscles\, bones\, nerves\, and organs\, in a controlled and respectful environment. Through guided examination and palpation\, attendees will enhance their knowledge of the human body’s spatial relationships and functional anatomy\, directly relating this to massage therapy practice. \n\n\n\nStudents will develop practical skills in handling and examining cadaveric material with gloves and aprons\, ensuring safety and respect for the donors. The course will emphasize the clinical correlations between anatomical structures and massage therapy techniques\, helping students recognize anatomical variations\, multi-layered tissues\, and their implications for therapeutic practice. DESCRIPTION:Retraining Neural-Circuits & Neuromuscular Habits14 CE Hours + Approved by NCBTMB \n\n\n\nUnderstanding & Transforming Chronic Pain: \n\n\n\nAn In-depth Introduction to the Theory and Techniques of Somatic Therapy \n\n\n\nThis class will review the latest neuroscience the brain plays in the perception and persistence of pain. This knowledge will quickly help us see the difference between “neuroplastic” and structurally caused pain. Understanding this is essential for consistent and successful treatment. First\, we’ll review techniques to address the neuro-circuitry linked to chronic pain. Then we’ll use somatic education to change inefficient patterns of dysfunction. Therapeutically we’ll use “awareness-based touch and movement” to awaken proprioceptive centers and stimulate healthier neurological activity. A variety of injuries\, pathologies and conditions will be discussed to make the information relevant for actual practice. \n\n\n\nThough all of this may sound overwhelming\, it comes together with simple techniques that are easy to apply and are gentle on the therapist. The work is relationship-based\, so we will look at how to bring our clients into a healthier relationship with their own healing. And this process starts with us.
