Whitney Lowe One of the most frequent comments about Whitney Lowe by his students – online and workshop – is how accessible he is. How patient he is with their questions, and how he expresses a real concern with their understanding. They like that he makes learning fun and brings a lightness to what can be dry and complex concepts.

Whitney has always tried to make his courses fun and easy to understand, and students often note this in their evaluations. His courses are thorough, but taught in a way anyone can understand whether they have been in the profession a day or 30 years. Students and colleagues will say that Whitney is friendly, witty, and yeah, sometimes a bit goofy.

At the offices here, we tease Whitney for being a bit nerdy. He spends a lot of time exploring what’s new in theory, research, and practice. Over his 3 decades of clinical work, writing, and teaching, he has never stopped exploring new ideas and solutions for treating patient’s pain. But also, he has pushed the profession generally on improving teaching methods. He has spent much of his career learning to be a good teacher, and that skill shows up in all of his courses.

“My overarching goal as a massage therapist has always been to help relieve people’s physical pain. I dove into advanced massage treatment and research early on, pushing boundaries in traditional care and therapy. At one point found that I really loved to teach. An early mentor, Benny Vaughn, inspired me to integrate assessment protocols and to pursue expanding the use of this critical treatment element in the profession. My goals today continue to be to help other professionals expand their practices and options for treating their clients’ pain. But even more than that, I want to help massage therapists tap into the excitement and passion that brought them into this profession."

-Whitney Lowe

The dry facts about Whitney:  Lowe’s been in the profession for over 30 years. He is the author of the profession’s first accessible assessment text, Orthopedic Assessment in Massage Therapy. He is a contributing author to several other texts, as well as countless published articles. He developed the ground-breaking Orthopedic Massage online certificate program, applying true online educational methods and technology for the first time in the profession. He is a member of the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Bodywork & Movement Therapies, and is a regularly featured author in publications such as Massage & Bodywork, Massage Today, and Massage Magazine.

Jim has been a massage therapist for more than 26 years and has been teaching massage techniques for 20 years. Jim noticed that some of his students were ending their massage careers, not because they wanted to, but because they felt their bodies could no longer preform a quality massage. Jim realized that many of these therapists were leaving the profession because they had not utilized body saving techniques. He saw many therapists using only their hands and fingers and not using their forearms. With this in mind, Jim developed Forearm Fusion. This method uses the hand, forearm, and elbow to provide a therapeutic massage. Proper body mechanics are stressed in this class.

My name is Jesse Prescott and I am a true, born and raised Flagstaff local. I grew up riding bmx and dirt bikes but didn’t really identify as an athlete until I began my journey into Mixed Martial Arts in 2006. In 2010 I competed in my first and only cage fight. After a devastating loss, I decided to compete in Jiu Jitsu tournaments. As I was preparing for said tournaments I discovered CrossFit and used that training modality to supplement my Jiu Jitsu. 3 tournaments later, my obsessive personality latched on to CrossFit as my sport of choice, competing in CrossFit competitions as often as I could. In 2013 I suffered through a pretty devastating back injury that ultimately lead to the end of fascination with competition and sparked my interest in helping people overcome injuries. Massage Therapy was the quickest path to a career and so I jumped. My obsessive personality quickly took over and I became obsessed with learning anything and everything I needed to help people live a life without pain.
