Pre-requisite Workshop(s):
Due to the fact that this course is working with the sensitivity of the nervous system, it is highly recommended, but not required, that you take the VM1 (Visceral Manipulation 1) class before attending NM1. Experience with sensitive, light-touch palpation can also be attained from attending CS1 (Craniosacral Therapy 1).
Description:
IMPORTANT — REVIEW THIS PDF PRIOR TO CLASS
https://www.barralinstitute.com/docs/prestudy-materials/NM1-Preparation-with-Q_A.pdf
In this course, you will study the three primary areas of trauma as they relate to whiplash: physical laws, evaluation and treatment. The instructor will present appropriate lecture, demonstration, and supervised hands-on lab sessions addressing such topics as restrictions in the meningeal system; soft tissues of the cervical and cervicobrachial regions; and the lumbosacral region.
You will obtain maximum benefit from the class if you have a working knowledge of cranial bones, sutures and intracranial membranes. A few sample questions you should be able to answer are:
1. The coronal suture is between what 2 bones?
2. The occipito-mastoid suture/jugular foramen is between what 2 bones?
3. The falx cerebri is predominately (or mostly) under what suture?
4. The attachments of the tentorium cerebelli are:
a. frontal bone, petrouss part of temporal bone, occiput
b. occiput, parietal, temporal, bones, anterior and posterior clinoid processes of sphenoid bone
c. occiput, parietal and temporal bones, maxilla
Answers are in the pre-study document located at https://www.barralinstitute.com/docs/prestudy-materials/NM1-Preparation-with-Q_A.pdf

Supplies:
PLEASE BRING A MASSAGE/TREATMENT TABLE. Due to liability issues, meeting sites may not allow banquet tables to be used as treatment tables. Additionally, treatment tables provide a safer and more comfortable environment for the lab portion of class. We understand some travel may not make massage/treatment table transport possible – when you receive an email from us asking about massage/treatment tables, please simply reply accordingly.
AFTER you sign in and pick-up your name tag at the seminar, set your massage/treatment table in front of the pre-set chairs in the meeting room.
When needed or desired, you are expected to provide your own face mask and eye goggles/glasses for mouth work and other similar and appropriate lab times.
Attire:
Comfortable, loose fitting clothes. As many of these manipulations require an exposed abdominal cavity, we encourage you to bring a bath towel, clothing suitable for skin contact (lab clothes), and appropriate undergarments so that you are comfortable if they are exposed during the lab sessions. During trades you may be in varied stages of undress, but during lecture time and in common areas of the meeting site outside of the classroom, please return to a fully clothed professional appearance. Due to potential chemical sensitivities of your classmates, please refrain from wearing perfumes or oils to class. Due to the nature of the work, short finger nails are required.
Times:
RRegistration begins at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of class. A continental breakfast will be served until 9:00 a.m., at which time the workshop will begin. Subsequent class hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, and the last day will meet from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Workshop scheduled times are approximate and class may run over to ensure that the material is sufficiently covered.
Class ending times are approximate, and may run late based on class participation.

Transfer to another class 29-15 days in advance: $100 logistics and planning fee.
Transfer to another class less than 15 days of class start date: $200 logistics and planning fee.

Cancellation of class: Fully refundable more than 29 days prior to the class start date. Cancellations or no shows within 29 days of the class are nonrefundable and are subject to applicable logistics and transfer fees based upon the date of class cancellation or transfer notification received by our home office.
